Hero amongst the residents

The pondering rain smashing against the ground did not stop the residents of eMalahleni to help people in a moment of need.

This past weekend the whole town’s residents were in a frantic state with roads overflowing, bridges collapsing and accidents happening left and right. But when a taxi fell into a black hole where a bridge used to be on March 11, the community surfaced a hero or two.

A man in a silver Volkswagen Golf that wishes to stay anonymous saved one of the passengers from the taxi when the strong stream took him down the river while he was fighting to stay above the water.

“We heard a commotion in our area on Friday night. It was then when my friends and I went to investigate and came upon an unknown man that was struggling to get out of the strong flood. My friend and I then ran into the stream and quickly caught him before the stream took him deeper and pulled him out. We then took him to the accident scene where ambulance assistance was available,” he said.

“My car is still wet after our wet trip but I don’t worry. I am just glad the guy who’s name I didn’t even get is fine,” said the anonymous hero.
