Attacked in her own back yard

The man stabbed her in the leg with the knife he was holding.

A woman who wishes not to be named was attacked in the late afternoon by an unknown assailant without warning.
Edwin Nel from the Ga-Nala 911 explained what transpired on Sunday November 1.

“She put her dogs inside the house to feed them when the attacker jumped over the wall,” said Nel.

The suspect apparently hit the victim over the back of her head without warning or threatening her.

She fell to the ground and apparently resisted thrashing and kicking. The man stabbed her in the leg with the knife he was holding. After she continued to fight back he apparently tried to grab a brick from a pile which was in the yard. At that moment one of her brave dogs who were barking furiously inside managed to get out and attacked the attacker. He quickly fled back over the wall and escaped leaving a traumatised woman bleeding from her leg.

The quick response from the Ga-Nala 911 team was thanks to one of their responders who also work as a taxi driver in town. The victim immediately phoned her friend who happened to be travelling in the very taxi the 911 responder was driving. He called it in on the radio app Zello.

Delta Alfa was one of the first responders that arrived on the scene at the same time as the security unit. For the Ga-Nala 911 guys their first priority was to assist the wounded victim until the ambulance arrived. The security unit went to search for the criminal in the immediate area.

“At the end of the day the whole community stood together to try and assist to apprehend the suspect,” said Delta Alfa who asked for his real name to be withheld. “It is just sad that a criminal can attack a poor lady like that,” he added sadly.

The community in Ga-Nala communicated over Zello to try and catch the fleeing attacker however he was not caught. A case has been opened at the Kriel SAPS and the woman is receiving counselling after the terrible experience. The Ga-Nala 911 team urges people to be vigilant and make use of their Zello group in case of an emergency.
