Lack in man-force sees the sewage flow continue

It has been three weeks and still the sewage continues to flow in Klarinet.

An article in last week’s WITBANK NEWS detailed how a pipe had blocked up, causing sewage to flow up into the fabrication and electrical workshops of Etis Mvlaphanda Engineering.

The incident was reported to Emalahleni Municipality on a number of occasions and the business was told that a team would be coming out to repair the fault, however nothing has been done.

The municipality was first contacted on November 11.
“I first reported this on Theo’s Facebook page and via an email to him directly and received a message saying that they would be sending a team out. This was on Tuesday, November 11,” said Ms Denise Turner, and employee at Etis Mvlaphanda Engineering.
On November 19, two trucks were seen pumping out the sewage at a manhole further down the street but that did not alleviate the issue.
“It still exists and the poor staff at the boilershop are battling with the unhealthy sanitary mess and the stink. The pool next to electrical box by our electrical workshop is the same. Imagine trying to work or walk down this street and what our clients must think when they turn into this street,” said Turner.

On November 27 Turner again contacted the administrator’s office and received a reply through e-mail:
Good afternoon
Staff from our water section are currently refusing to work due to certain demands on their part.
As soon as the matter has been resolved will we give attention to matters like yours again.
We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience caused.
Kind regards
Jadine

Administrator’s Assistant.
“Why weren’t they honest from the start, saying they had a problem with their staff? And why couldn’t they get an external team to handle the issue. It is a serious health infringement to one and all in the area,” said Turner.

To date, WITBANK NEWS has not received a response from the Emalahleni Municipality, concerning this matter.
