Poisonings and thefts, working hand in hand

“My husband woke me up Friday morning saying we had a big problem. He told me our two bikes and a quad had been stolen,” said Ms Riekie Joubert.

On Friday morning, August 29 the Jouberts immediately contacted their neighbour, Mr John Zwane, hoping he had seen something, only to find that his dog had been poisoned.
“When my husband went out to check the yard he found that the front gate had been opened, he looked around and saw that the side gate had been broken, and that all three bikes had been stolen,” said Ms Joubert.

The couple got into their car, determined to find the motorcycles but had no luck in their search, the drove throughout the neighbourhood in search of the Yamaha Raptor 600, Yamaha YZ 250 and Suzuki GSXR1000.

They reported the vehicle thefts to Witbank Police, and went about their day. The following morning one of Joubert’s Dachshunds began vomiting uncontrollably.
“We immediately took it to the vet for treatment, it had been poisoned,” she said.

While at the vet, the Joubert family spoke to another visitor, they too had brought their dog in due to it being poisoned. That poisoning took place in the Reyno Ridge area.

Witbank Police caution the public not to handle the poisons directly should they come upon it. They should also rush their animals to the vet should they be poisoned.
