Cable theft incident sparks community call for vigilance

The Emalahleni Local Municipality encourages residents to remain watchful, report any suspicious behaviour, and continue to collaborate to eliminate crime and maintain the city’s wealth and well-being.

A case of cable theft was reported at the corner of Jellicoe and Montgomery Streets in Extension 5, raising concerns about the safety and economic impact of such criminal activities in the community.

Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the incident on Tuesday, July 25, apprehending a suspect who was subsequently handed over to Witbank Police Station.

A case of theft and vandalism has been officially opened in connection with the incident.

Cable theft not only disrupts essential services but also hampers economic opportunities in the city.

The loss of vital infrastructure affects businesses, residents, and public services, impacting the overall development and growth of the area.

In light of this recent cable theft, community members are urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious or illegal activities to law enforcement agencies.

Emalahleni Local Municipality spokesperson Lebohang Mofokeng said, “We condemn the cable theft in the strongest way possible and wish to encourage members of the community to report all activities of cable theft to law enforcement agencies.”
