SALGA Mpumalanga host Provincial Members Assembly in eMalahleni

The South African Local Government Association in Mpumalanga welcomed delegates in different positions within the local government sphere.

The Provincial Members Assembly of SALGA in Mpumalanga Province was held at the ANEW Hotel in eMalahleni.

The assembly focused on key issues affecting local government on matters such as inadequate financial management, governance challenges, service delivery interventions, and consequence management.

The two-day assembly was attended by delegates and stakeholders in different leadership positions within the local government sphere.

Newly appointed Emalahleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor Clr Leah Mabuza welcomed SALGA and the PMA delegates to Emalahleni Local Municipality.

“The population of Emalahleni is growing exponentially. The current challenges facing the LG sector require us to go back to basics but that approach has a challenge on its own of not being able to provide basic services. Please be at home in the investment destination of Emalahleni,” said Mabuza.

The SALGA Constitution (as amended) provides that “SALGA shall at least annually hold a meeting of members to be known and described in the notice calling such a meeting as the Provincial Members’ Assembly.

The Mpumalanga Assembly was also attended by the President of SALGA Clr Bheke Stofile, who spoke on the Update on the Key Policy Advances, “As the representative voice of local government, the National Executive Committee (NEC) has been deliberate in identifying various stakeholders as partners within the local government sphere.

Recently, we met with the Minister of the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and agreed that we should visit all nine provinces together with the SALGA NEC to mobilise and work together as a team to change the local government narrative. Furthermore, assist municipalities across the country, especially those that are facing service delivery challenges,” said Stofile.
