Driver abandoned in the bushes after being hijacked

As the number of vehicle hijackers rises, police urge drivers to be more cautious.

Hijackings are on the rise in the city, and everyone is a target, particularly late-night drivers.

In addition to the hijackings recorded near the end of the month, a man was recently dumped in the Coronation bushes after allegedly being assaulted and hijacked.

The incident is believed to have occurred around 19:00 on Wednesday, March 22 in the Central Business District (CBD).

According to the assertion, the stolen vehicle was an office car for a local property business.

The company’s spokesperson requested anonymity.

According to the spokesperson, the incident occurred near the traffic department after the complainant dropped off his colleagues. He was driving home when he was approached by six suspects in a double cab, four of whom stepped out of the vehicle and approached him; all of them were armed.

They then pointed a gun at him, told him to go out and attacked him, and drove with him until they dumped him in the Coronation bushes.

Witbank Police spokesperson, Sergeant David Ratau, encourages motorists to be alert at all times while driving.

“Leave a gap when you are driving, following a distance, be observant of other cars, try to escape if you are able and if the cars around you look suspicious, make your getaway and drive to a safe place,” said Sergeant Ratau.
