Still no feedback from the municipality about Blancheville

Blancheville is still been treated as an orphan.

Blancheville’s water problems are still causing ripples.

After having to cope without water for nearly a week, residents again struggled with water issues this past weekend.

On March 25 the water supply to Riverview and Blancheville was affected due to pipe breaks and the systems were isolated for repair works.

The previous weekend residents showed their anger by burning tyres on the corner of Second Street and Old Middelburg Road because they had not had water for five days.

The chairman of the area’s neighbourhood watch Mr Riaan van Wyk said Blancheville needs urgent intervention.

Apart from the water issues the neighbourhood has time and again asked for streetlights to be fixed, long grass to be cut and potholes to be fixed.

Some streets like Avril Street are a no-go.

There is nothing but pieces of tar left that damage cars when driven over.

The particular street washed away in 2016 when the low water bridge in Second Street washed away due to heavy rain.

The ward’s WhatsApp group is flooded with complaints about service delivery, and residents feel that the ward is being neglected.

The ward’s councillor, Clr Maureen Scheepers had some late nights waiting at sites as repairs are done.

She said the municipality needs to take accountability for the mismanagement of certain departments.

“I report and follow up complaints daily. For example, I have some water meter complaints that are still outstanding since November 2022 or even some road repairs outstanding since I was elected in 2021.”

The complaints are also raised during the ward committee’s monthly meetings.

The municipality has not yet responded to the concerns raised by the residents.
