Bakkie stolen from yard in eMalahleni recovered in Middelburg

The vehicle was allegedly signalled travelling on the Stoffberg Road near Loskop Dam heading towards Groblersdal direction. In the other incident, Middelburg police recovered a 9mm pistol with a magazine and eight live rounds

Mpumalanga Police in collaboration with Car Tracker Company and Middelburg Flying Squad arrested a man (34) for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

According to reports, police members received information from the tracking company that a white Toyota Hilux was reportedly stolen from a yard in eMalahleni on March 10.

The vehicle was allegedly signalled travelling on the Stoffberg Road near Loskop Dam heading towards Groblersdal.

The details were followed and the Hilux was found with the suspect behind the steering wheel.

Upon investigation, the vehicle was confirmed to be the one the police were looking for after the theft was reported.

The suspect was arrested by members of the Middelburg Flying Squad.

The 9mm pistol was recovered on March 12.

He is expected to appear in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on March 13.

In another unrelated incident, information came through from the intelligence structure of the police in Middelburg which led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol with a magazine and eight live rounds.

It is believed that in the early hours of Sunday, March 12, police received information of a suspect in possession of a pistol without a licence.

Police commenced an operation and arrived at a house in Middelburg, where the suspect fled to avoid arrest.

Police, however, recovered the firearm.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, acknowledged with much appreciation the great work achieved through collaborative efforts between the tracking company and the police.

The General also applauded members for the recovery of the firearm.

“We hope by now the public can see that their anxiety regarding the proliferation of firearms as well as theft, robbery and hijacking of motor vehicles has been taken into serious consideration by both the state working jointly with the private sector. This incident should reignite hope for members of the community that their concerns did not fall on deaf ears. More is still yet to be achieved, just watch the space,” said the General.
