Rape is a growing concern in eMalahleni

Four women (three minors and one adult) were allegedly raped between January 8 and 10.

Witbank Police warns the community to remain vigilant after four women, three minors and one adult, were allegedly raped in two days.

The four incidents are believed to have occurred on January 8 and 10.

The first incident occurred on January 8 when a minor returned home in Siyanqoba after being missing for the day and told her mother that she was with a man with who she had intercourse with.

Due to her age, the matter is considered rape.

The other three incidents occurred on January 10, one in the morning and two in the evening.

In the morning, another minor allegedly became a victim of the horrendous crime after she was raped by two unknown men in an open field on Mandela Road after taking the wrong taxi.

No suspects have been identified.

The first of the incidents in the evening allegedly involved an adult victim and occurred in Leeuwpoort when the victim was on her way home from a relative.

It is believed that an unknown male demanded her cellphone and instructed her not to look at him, or he will stab her.

Allegedly, the perpetrator covered her head with her shirt, forced her into the bushes, and instructed her to undress before he allegedly raped her.

The last incident too involved a minor who fell victim to the crime at the hands of a family member.

It is believed that a neighbour informed the victim’s mother that her daughter is pregnant and that the victim confirmed the pregnancy when her mother spoke with her.

Allegedly, the perpetrator, a family member, threatened to take the victim’s life if she told anyone he raped her in July and August 2022.

Witbank Police urged the community, especially students returning from holiday, to remain vigilant and consider the safety tips provided on the SAPS website against sexual offences.
