Man to appear in court for allegedly killing and burying a 34-year-old woman

On Thursday, December 15 the body of a missing woman was discovered, allegedly buried in a shallow grave.

A family is in shock and pleading for help after their loved one was found brutally killed and buried in a field in Siyanqoba.

A man suspected of killing and burying her will appear in Witbank Magistrate court on January 4.

According to the information received, Ms Netty Mokwena was last seen by her 14-year-old son leaving her home with a man and never returning.

The incident was then reported to the police, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect, who allegedly confessed to killing Mokwena and burying her in a shallow grave somewhere in the Siyanqoba fields.

The body was discovered decomposing to the point where the police are awaiting the results of DNA tests before allowing the family to take and bury the deceased.

The regional coordinator of the EFF Gender-Based Violence Desk, Dimakatso Phaahlamoraswi, said they were outraged by the incident and have called for the courts to deny the suspect bail.

“The family is still in shock and seeking closure as they don’t know why the suspect killed their daughter and why in that manner,” Phaahlamoraswi said.
