Murderer gets 15 years behind bars

The community is urged not to resort to any form of violence should there be any misunderstanding.

The Kriel Regional Court sentenced a man to 15 years imprisonment for murder.

The 31-year-old Lunga Matiwane was found guilty of murdering Mr Spintjies Jantises (34); his sentence was handed down on Monday, August 22.

The court heard how an argument between Matiwane and Jantises’ brother flared up on August 6, 2017, after a bumper bash at Thubelihle.

The heated argument resulted in Spintjies being stabbed by Matiwane while he tried to intervene.

Matiwane stabbed Spintjies in the chest and arm.

When police and emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they found Spintjies in a pool of blood; he died on the scene.

Police opened a murder case and started investigating the incident.

Matiwane later went to Kriel Police Station claiming that he was assaulted by the Jantises brothers.

Police arrested him.

Five years later he was convicted and sentenced.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has welcomed the sentence and appealed to community members not to resort to any form of violence should there be any misunderstanding.
