"Cases of abuse need to be reported, let’s break the silence."

Women of Empumelelweni were encouraged to study further, learn to do things for themselves and depend on their partners for their welfare.

Ms Mashupye said she, like any other girl growing up in the township, was faced with the challenges faced by young girls.

She prioritised education and further studied and is now a businesswoman.

“We are here to support, share and encourage you to have skills and to look for opportunities. We know you are faced with many challenges, but we want to say to you, push hard against the odds to get what you want. Commit yourself, share problems and look for opportunities.”

Ms Maluleka is a police officer and used to work at Vosman Police Station, but is now stationed at the provincial office.

Ms Maluleka is now a qualified social worker and is still studying further and is presently a Miss Township South Africa finalist.

“I’m dealing with cases of child abuse and GBV daily. Children are abused and we need to break the silence. Women need to stand up because it is not okay to be abused; it is not okay to be in a toxic relationship. We need to be happy in our relationships. Cases of abuse need to be reported, let’s break the silence. Let’s try to work together for a common cause,” said Ms Maluleka

Captain Elizabeth Mgaudi said women need to bring back their dignity and behave in a good manner.
