Man left in a bush after he was hijacked in eMalahleni’s CBD

Another carjacking in the city.

Motorists’ safety on eMalahleni roads is a concern, as criminals are on the lookout for the next victim and drivers are urged to be vigilant at all times,

as criminals apply a variety of methods.

This comes after a man was carjacked in the Central Business District.

The incident is believed to have happened around 21:00 on Wednesday, August 17, when the victim was driving down Beatty Street and attempting to move to the other side of the road because a car had blocked the way when he was suddenly hijacked by unknown suspects armed with firearms.

According to the information received suspects who were inside the car climbed out, blocked the way and pointed a firearm at the victim.

They then told him to sit in the middle of the back seat and drive to the Old Middelburg Road, where they stopped and abandoned the man in a nearby bush.

The suspects drove away with the victim’s car.

These are SAPS tips for avoiding hijacking:

*Motorists should avoid driving in the late evening and night.

*Doors should be locked and all windows should be closed.

*Motorists should always be aware of their surroundings.

*Familiarize yourself with the surrounding areas.

*When approaching traffic lights and no cars are there, motorists should yield and then pass, if the light is red.

*When there is a car in front of you at the traffic lights, leave a safe distance, to be able to turn and drive away, if you are being hijacked.
