Two suspects aged 23 and 31 appear before court regarding public violence at Witbank Dam

Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the arrest.

Two suspects aged 23 and 31 appeared at the Witbank Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of public violence.

Their arrest follows an incident of public violence which occurred on Thursday, August 11 outside Witbank Dam in Mandela Street where the Provincial ANC Youth Conference was taking place on the premises.

According to the information, the two were part of a group of people who were protesting outside the venue.

The protest is said to have turned violent and the two allegedly pelted police vehicles with stones but were swiftly arrested by members of Public Order Policing.

The police then managed to disperse the crowd and maintained order ensuring that the conference proceeded without disturbances.

During their court appearance, Mpho Sizwe Nkutha (31) and Siyabonga Nkosi (23) were granted bail of R500 each and they are expected to appear at the same court on Friday, August 19.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela welcomed the arrest of the two suspects and further applauded the members for how they managed the unrest.
