Community Corrections share the love of Madiba with Impungwe Hospital

The ambience at the hospital was accelerated within 67 minutes

Witbank Community Corrections officials, parolees and probationers braced the cold weather to contribute to a safer, healthier and happier environment for the public and healthcare workers at Impungwe Hospital.

According to Ms Thabile Mahlangu this was part of the Mandela Day activities on Monday, July 18.

Impungwe Hospital is situated in eMalahleni and renders services to the Wolvekraans village, Duvha Park residents and all nearby mine villages. It is a level one district hospital which was donated to the Department of Health by Ingwe Coal Corporation in 1998,” added Ms Mahlangu.

Area Coordinator Social Reintegration, Ms Cynthia Hlatshwayo, supported the initiative and she said: “Our parolees worked hard today for this place to be clean. We cleaned the courtyards, parking areas, nurses’ quarters and all public spaces. There is still work to be done, but we will tackle it in phases to show our community that our parolees can be beneficial members of society.”

Parolees worked tirelessly under the supervision of correctional officials to ensure that they impact positively.

The Mandela spirit of giving sheltered the day. Although parolees laboured, correctional officials also contributed to the success of the event by donating funds to procure food for the parolees and get-well gifts for the sick.

Patients at the hospital were treated with snack packs comprising juice, chips, biscuits and sweets. The ambience at the hospital was accelerated within 67 minutes.

Impungwe Corporate Services manager Ms Nomthandazo Vilane could not hide her gratitude after seeing the effort put in by Correctional Services. “I would like to thank the Witbank Community Corrections Office for dedicating Mandela day to this facility. We have identified other projects where we will need assistance, now I know where to run to,” she stated.
