Beauty queens shower furry friends with love

Beauty queens get a ‘barking’ welcome at SPCA.

A morning shared with a furry friend is a blessed morning indeed – this was just what the beauty queens of eMalahleni did.

On July 2 the beautiful ladies gathered at the Witbank Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to host their ‘furry shower’ and ‘doggy walk’ project.

This initiative came from Ms Rene Jordt who carried the Witbank 2018 and Mrs Nkangala International Village 2021 crown and has a big love and passion for animals.

It was after a lot of brainstorming for getting a way to get more donations for the SPCA, that she started a project in 2017.

It started with pool parties, where they had a pool at their local business for the public to enjoy days and in support of the SPCA. It all came down to an entrance fee to donate dog or cat food, etc.

“We had so many people from the community joining and supporting this cause that she decided to continue with the pool parties. She had the pool parties for three years then Covid came in 2020 when they had to empty the pool. So, after a lot of brainstorming again she came up with the idea of a furry shower and doggy walk at the SPCA to get more feet there and get the furry friends to be adopted,” said Marchelle Tschirpig, Mrs Middelburg 2021.

The first furry shower was held in 2021 and Rene asked her fellow title holders to join.

It was such a huge success that she decided to continue and ask the current title holders to do it this year again.

With another huge success, Rene believes that this will become an annual day at the SPCA and that the titleholders will continue doing the furry shower.
