Actors workshop light at the end of a tunnel

Well known actors gracing local talent with knowledge.

Two well-known actors stressed the importance of hard work, commitment and the love of the craft to succeed.

The pair Chrispen Nyathi and Mzikayise Makroti are both actors in DiepCity.

Mzikayise Makroti plays the part of Fistos husband to Sinethemba in the Mzansi Magic drama DiepCity.

Nyathi (27) is an actor who is popularly known for playing Pastor Charleston in the Mzansi Magic drama.

He plays a young pastor who is determined to win souls for God in a community filled with crime and poverty.

Nyathi stated that he started as an extra and developed his craft after researching, reading books and learning from others.

He taught the aspiring actors about the importance of memorising lines, voice training, listening and reacting to imaginary scenes, warming up, projection, characterisation, elevating, movement and many more other issues.

The actors going through the workshop conducted by Chrispen Nyathi and Mzikayise Makroti, both actors in the Mzansi Magic drama DiepCity.

“As actors, you learn new things every day, listening is very key, read books, research, download videos, work hard, focus and get as much information as you can on acting. You will be rejected, but do not lose hope; we have been rejected many times to reach where we are now. One needs to be very strong mentally to reach the top,” Nyathi said.

Taking the actors through the workshop, Nyathi was very impressed with the local talent.

The actors were given imaginary scenes to act on, and they did a very good job with the limited information they were taught in a limited time.

Mzikayise said he has a theatre background, and it was very tough in the beginning and attended classes and later joined an agency.

He also pointed out the importance of believing in oneself.

“If you work hard and believe in God, He will make it happen. We are faced with a lot of social issues and one needs to find a way to make things happen. Stay focused all the time and find time to learn more,” Makroti pointed out.

Nyathi also talked about making a list of things to be done and a timetable to be followed.

He said the actors must write down their vision, and they must be disciplined.

He added to say that as actors, they must make some sacrifices to succeed.

Both actors agreed that they will make time and came back for another workshop and try to guide the actors.

The workshop was facilitated by Kgomotso Mathebula and was supported by Thokozane Hlophe of Smoked Out Agency.

They thanked Pastor Joseph Skosana for making his church available for the workshop and the actors for their attendance.
