Sewage flooded more than 50 homes

The community is pleading the municipality to come and assist them with this problem as it's a health issue

So far it’s been a disaster because people don’t have a place to sleep and sewage is still backing up into their homes, said Collen Maushe, Ward 14 PR Councillor for the EFF.

It is the allegedly disrupted municipal sewerage system that caused the Marikana resident’s homes to flood, leaving them distraught and pleading for help.

The allegedly clogged municipal sewerage as well as the big white bag allegedly used by municipal workers to clog the drain.

According to Mr Maushe, there is a sewage problem in Coronation, Marikana that started last week at Lokshin.

What happened is that municipal workers blocked the sewage, which then came back to leak in the Coronation side, and so the sewage didn’t flow anymore, and residents in this section were submerged, with more than 50 houses filled with water.

One of the residents said we have a problem of being submerged by wastewater, and due to the drain being blocked.

We are pleading the municipality to come and help us.

“We called the municipal’s technical service director, Mr Mike Lelaka yesterday and he promised to send his team, and his team arrived today to check. We also tried to contact the social development and disaster management,” Mr Maushe added.
