Citylads win the eMalahleni Derby 3-1

In the final minutes of the game, Citylads got another goal that brought the score to 3-1

Victory required Citylads to dig deep.

Witbank Citylads completed the Mpumalannga ABC Motsepe A stream league with a 3-1 win over Witbank Shepard on Saturday, March 19 at Lynnville Stadium.

Both teams were quietly doing very well in the first half and were striving for the first goal, but Citylads were first to create an opportunity to get a goal from their player Mduduzi Ndlovu, but it only took about two minutes for Shepard to equalize which was from Njabulo Hlongwane resulting to a 1-1 score before halftime.

As the game progressed into the second half, both teams began to compete for the number two goal. Citylads created opportunities and had two great attempts, but the number 16, who only had about eight minutes in the game, didn’t take advantage of them.

While Shepard was also attempting to score, a lot happened during the game as the coaches began to complain about the referee’s decision, which resulted in two coaches from Shepard receiving red cards and later, the captain Themba Maphanga receiving a yellow card for complaining about the referee decisions.

The game became more serious as the referee was very strict, issuing a red card to Citylads player Ngako Kgatla and one yellow card to players from both teams in a short period.

The game continued to progress until Citylads scored their second goal through an indirect free kick from Mcedisi Mazibuko, and after the goal, Citylads were still looking for another chance to score. Shepard kept on looking for an equalizer, but they couldn’t find it.

In the final minutes of the game, Citylads got another goal that brought the score to 3-1 from Lindani Kunene via a penalty that they earned, resulting in winning the three points and having 13 points in the league.

The game ended with a 3-1 score and Shepard was enraged by the referee’s decisions during the game. That was how both teams ended their 2021/2022 league season.
