Good start for Nkangala Athletic Academy both in school and club competitions

‘We are one of the best development teams in Mpumalanga,” said Emmanuel Mabaso, chairperson of the Nkangala Athletic Academy.

Nkangala Athletic Academy (NAA) has been in the spotlight dominating athletics in Mpumalanga; both in school track and club road running.

The school athletes have been active and ran their personal best while some broke school records as they are looking forward to qualifying for the Mpumalanga school track and field championships to be held in Secunda on Saturday, March 5.

Zakhele Mathebula has currently broken Carolina Academic School’s 400m u.17 record, Neni and Nani Ndlovu ran their new personal best in the 3 000m u.17 at HTS, while Themba Masemola, Thapelo Mgoja, Philani Ndlovu, Siyabonga Sibeko, Anesu Liwane, Lucky Tsotestsi and Hope Matshiya stand a good chance of qualifying as they obtained top three in their events respectively.

On the senior side, Nkangala Athletic Academy has been dominating the past three road runnings, with Moses Mahlangu winning the Dennesig 10km Nite Race, Mandla Nkabinde positioned second while Nkosinathi Tsotetsi won the junior category.

Moses’s winning stream continues in the Panorama 10km Nite Race in Witbank on February 16 followed by Mandla in the second position while Cindy Simelane obtains the third position in the female category.

NAA went forth to dominate in the Sasol Marathon in Secunda on Saturday, February 19 by obtaining six podium medals: Hope winning the 10km junior category, Moses winning the 21.1km, Clemond Komane came third overall and also winning the junior category while Jan Nkabinde won the Men 40+ category. Mandla came second in the marathon.

“I am happy with a positive start to the season, and what motivates us most is that on the other side of the world, in New Mexico, Thulisile Amon broke the New Mexico State University 800m record, and her sister, Thobile Amon ran her personal best in a mile. This proves that we are one of the best development teams in Mpumalanga,” said Emmanuel Mabaso, chairperson of the NAA.
