Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Mahlangu and his office from the FSC Unit approached Glencore to ask for donations after identifying schools that have children who need assistance.

The FSC Unit has been dealing with cases where children were victims of crime and had noticed that some children do not have a uniform; as a result, they would be discriminated against and bullied.

This led the children to leave school.

“We are glad that Glencore was willing to assist us when we came knocking on their doors. The office wishes to do more for other schools around eMalahleni. We want to try our best to keep children in school. I have been working with cases that involved children since 1996 and till this day, they are the reason why I always work hard,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mahlangu.

Acting Community Manager from Glencore, Mr Dimakatso Ledwaba said that children have the right to education and helping the children enjoy that right is the responsibility of every adult.

“We want to help the children realise the importance of being in school and acquiring knowledge. We want the children to enjoy being at school, to love one another, to focus and grow well,” Ledwaba added.

One of the learners who received school shoes said that they are really grateful for the generous donation and they are encouraged to stay in school.
