Memorial ride in honour of Gert Nienaber

Gert was one of the many cyclists in eMalahleni that you would see on the road on his bicycle

The cycling community in eMalahleni is a close-knit group and when a tragedy happens, the cycling group stands together, stronger than before.

On Sunday, January 16 over 50 cyclists, young and old attended the memorial ride in honour of Gert Nienaber.

Gert was one of the many cyclists in eMalahleni that you would see on the road on his bicycle.

If he was not training for a race, he would just be out with a group of cyclists enjoying his time on this bicycle and the company of other cyclists.

On Saturday, January 15 Gert was out with a group of cyclists training for an upcoming race when he was involved in an accident.

He later succumbed in the hospital due to the severity of the injuries he sustained.

Dan Cronje arranged the memorial ride and the family minister Rev Naas Lombard shared a few words with the family and the larger cycling community that attended.

After the cyclists did one lap of honour, they all made a Guard of Honor for the family to walk through.
