Heavy amount of diesel disappears from pipelines in Phola

It is alleged that a loss of pressure at one of the Transnet fuel pipelines between Kendal and Witbank was detected.

The stealing of essential infrastructure is very worrying to the police of Phola.

This comes after diesel valued at R1 million was suspected to be stolen from one of the tunnels.

A case was opened of tampering with or damage of essential infrastructure at the ‘Iraq section’ in Phola.

This case is similar to the one the police investigated in September.

It is alleged that a loss of pressure at one of the Transnet fuel pipelines between Kendal and Witbank was detected.

Upon investigation, Phola SAPS found that it was found in ‘Iraq section’ after a valve was damaged.

It is further alleged that the damaged valve had been leaking and had lost diesel worth R1 million.

Even though the suspects have not been found, the investigation continues as it is expected that such cases might reoccur in future.

Sergeant Petros Thabang Ntuli, Phola Corporate Communications Official said that this issue is very concerning.

“We urge all the residents of Phola to come forward with information regarding the case. If we work together, our community will be much safer,” Sgt Ntuli added.

A case docket has been opened at Phola Police Station. Anyone with information that can lead the police to the arrest of the suspects, can contact Phola SAPS on 013 643 8601/2 or 076 605 4760.
