eMalahleni has the highest number of new Covid-19 cases in the province according to the health department

eMalahleni contributed the highest number of new cases in the province with 188 and also the highest active cases of 555.

The Department of Health in Mpumalanga reported that it has noted an increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases received daily since last week (week 47).

New cases reported were 655 (as on December 4). In a statement, the department said that eMalahleni contributed the highest number of new cases in the province with 188 and also the highest active cases of 555.

The majority of new cases occurred in the 20-29 and the 40-49 age groups, and an increase in new cases in the age group 10-19, this is related to the low vaccine uptake in these age groups 35-49 (26%) and 18 to 34 years (36%).

Strategies are in place to address these infections in the age groups.

The Mpumalanga Provincial Government started with the Vooma Campaign to boost the vaccination drive before the festive season is in full swing.

The campaign started on Saturday, December 4 in eMalahleni; the Premier and the MEC were part of the delegation visiting and encouraging people to vaccinate.

The target is to vaccinate 150 000 people during the campaign.
