Kriel SAPS make copper cable bust

Kriel SAPS made 19 arrests recently. The bulk of that number comes from their success in a copper theft case that led to nine people being arrested.

Two suspects were arrested for possession of stolen property. On June 19, the police responded to a tip-off regarding stolen copper and followed up on the information.

They stopped an Isuzu bakkie which was abnormally loaded, when they searched the content on the back of the bakkie they discovered copper cables valued at R100 000.

The driver and his accomplice were arrested and their vehicle seized with the recovered copper cables.
The two suspects, Dankie Kolohe (31) and Reginald Vusi Cubai (27), were charged with possession of suspected stolen property.

Further investigation into the case led to the arrest seven suspects who were suspected of being linked to the copper cable theft.
They were charged with theft of copper cables and appeared in Kriel Magistrate’s Court on June 23.

The case has been postponed to June 26 for formal bail application.
