‘Build our bridge’ – Ward 20 state their complaints

The residents highlighted some of the issues in Blancheville under which the bridge, streets and service delivery were the most concerning issues

The ‘blue wave’ came over the once called Second Avenue Bridge in Blancheville this past weekend as the Democratic Alliance stated their concerns about Ward 20.

On Saturday, August 28, notice was given to the municipality that there will no longer be a ‘mister nice guy’ approach when fighting for service delivery.

WITBANK NEWS reported on the fatal incident of the Second Avenue Bridge that collapsed in March 2016.

After years and years of empty promises, this bridge has still not received any attention from the municipality.

The main focus of the day was to place the spotlight on the numerous issues in Blancheville and other suburbs in Ward 20.

“Despite the best efforts of our retiring ward councillor, Roy Cronje, the municipality have side-lined our ward and Ward 20 has become the forgotten ward of eMalahleni. Ward 20 will no longer be the forgotten Ward of eMalahleni. We as residents who pay our municipal accounts regularly and expect service delivery in return. We demand the full services that we pay for,” said Maureen Scheepers that resides in Ward 20 and is the current DA candidate.

The residents highlighted some of the issues in Blancheville under which the bridge, streets and service delivery were the most concerning issues.

WITBANK NEWS followed up by reporting about the bridge for five years as numerous contractors were assigned over the years but no action or attempt whatsoever was taken.

“We have been waiting for five years, we want our bridge built and the funds have been approved so we expect action immediately. We demand roads that we can drive on, not gravel tracks. We demand the provision of regular power and water services. We demand that our service delivery problems are attended to promptly and are no longer deferred indefinitely. We want a safe and clean environment so that our rivers and streams will be pollution-free,” she added.

During the ‘blue wave’ being the voice for Ward 20, the group started by cleaning up the area around the bridge and drove petition forms about the issues in Blancheville.
