Witbank High School launches awareness bullying campaign

The aim for the campaign is to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

Witbank High School has launched an awareness bullying campaign recently

The awareness kicked off on Wednesday, June 23 after numerous cases of bullying at schools around the country have been reported.

According to Witbank High principal, Mr Oskin Usinga the campaign is going to help many learners to be self-reliant and it will serve as a platform for the learners to report their issues or if they feel bullied or intimidated by fellow learners.

The learners were pleased about the launch of the campaign and they stated that it was about high time for the school to partake in such an initiative because this is going to help them not only physically, but even mentally and emotionally.

In the proceedings of the launch, Witbank High head girl Tamar Thomas said bullying has been at the forefront of the media because of the tragedies it has caused to people, especially this year.

The aim for the campaign is to create a safe and supportive learning environment and that’s the reason why they’re launching the anti-bullying campaign.

Tamar further spoke about the dangers of bullying, “bullying can cause people to make barbaric decisions in life and it also can lead to physical injury, social problems, emotional problems, and even death, just like the case of Mbilwi Secondary School which was trending on social media a few months back.

As learners of  Witbank High, we stand against bullying and we don’t promote any kind of violence,” said Tamar.

Deputy head boy Vusi Augustine Moiane told WITBANK NEWS that he is grateful for this awareness launch because it’s going to educate more boys to be responsible and break the stigma of seeing men as the mastermind of bullying.

He further said he hopes that the campaign is also going to help them to focus better on their studies because they now know where to go if they feel bullied.

Augustine further encouraged other schools to participate in such campaigns, “my wish is to see every school taking part in such campaigns #say NO to bullying.”

The deputy head girl Nkululeko Mnyakeni has concluded by saying she advises people to break the silence and report such matters.

The school has implemented bullying boxes where the learners can report their complaints when they feel bullied.
