Police want a drug-free society

Several drug users and dealers were arrested in a very short time frame. 

The use and distribution of drugs in and around eMalahleni are being targeted by the police to bring it to a stop. Several drug users and dealers were arrested in a very short time frame.

On Saturday, February 13 the police went into the streets of eMalahleni and made a total of six arrests.

In Allenby Street in the CBD (Central Business District) a suspect was arrested for possession of drugs; five ‘rocks’ worth R450. At the taxi rank in Beatty Street, a suspect was arrested for possession of drugs worth R80.

At another local taxi rank in Delville Street, a suspect was arrested for possession of drugs worth R100. In Lukin Street, a suspect was arrested for R350 worth of drugs.

In Delville Street two suspects were arrested for possession of drugs; one suspect had drugs worth R60 and the other suspect had drugs to the value of R160.

The police also made two drug arrests on Thursday, February 11.

The first arrest was in Old Coronation.

The suspect was arrested for possession of drugs worth R1 100.

The second arrest was in Jellicoe Street, where the police received information about a grey Volkswagen Polo selling drugs.

The police rushed there and found the vehicle with two occupants inside.

Both were searched and one of the suspects was arrested for possession of drugs worth R1 000.

Commander of Witbank Police Station Brigadier Sifiso Cele said: “Drug dealers and drug users must know that we will continue to arrest them until eMalahleni is a drug-free society.”
