Nkangala TVET College students gang up on principal as they protest for accomodation, transport and learning equipment

They did not allow him to move but to stand in the rain and listen to their grievances

Students at Nkangala Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College are protesting at the college’s central office in Corner Haig Avenue and Northey Street in the Central Business District (CBD).

The students surrounded the principal as they continued to toyi-toyi in the rain.

They did not allow him to move but to stand in the rain and listen to their grievances.

The principal did not allow the media to approach him for comment.

The students are protesting over the lack of safe accommodation provided by the institution, transport, and the lack of learning equipment provided by the institution.

Student Representative Council (SRC) Out-going member, Patience Grootboom, added students are also protesting against the lack of National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allowance distribution.

She added: “The principal told us last year that he will help us to get accommodation but still has not. We also have not received our NSFAS allowances.”
