Second place for Andre in age category at Barberton

The race day conditions were perfect for riding except for a few muddy sections

A couple of very brave cyclists from eMalahleni took on the tough Barberton XCM Mountain Bike challenge and it sure lived up to its normal name.

The grueling race took place on Saturday, January 26 in Barberton, the previous nights rain played a role in the race on.

The race day conditions were perfect for riding except for a few muddy sections.

“We were lucky we had missed the heat wave that they had experienced a few days before the race,” said Andre Potgieter.

Winning the Barberton XCM Mountain Bike challenge was Nico Bell who finished the 110km ultra marathon in a time of 4:47:24.

Gert Janse van Rensburg finished the 110km in a time of 5:20:03, finishing in a strong seventh position.

In the 77km Andre Potgieter finished in fifth place over all in a time of 3:31:30 and came second in his age category.

The rest of the cyclists from eMalahleni did extremely well in this tough race.
