In fact the docket was not even at court on Wednesday, January 2.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said she will appear in absentia as she is still hospitalized.

Brig Hlathi said the woman had called her family members and told them to go check her house.

“They reportedly went there and were met by a gruesome scene where dead bodies of her four children, aged between 11 months and eight years, were wrapped in blankets inside the house,” Brig Hlathi said.

The bodies were in the early stage of decomposition.

Ms Mathilda Mahlangu, the landlord, said they last saw the children at their home on December 26.

“The children and even the mother were fine. There were no signs or indication that this tragedy was about to unfold,” Mahlangu said.

Brig Hlathi said the motive for the murder is not known at this stage and a postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The woman is not 30 years old as previously reported, she is 24 years old.

There are no funeral arrangements for the children who have been identified as Minenhle (8), Blessing (6), Shanique (4) and Ettiene (11 months).

The mother’s identity is withheld until her first court appearance.
