#Shabane case set for Delmas High Court

Senior public prosecutor Mr Fannie Mavundla explained that the case will resume next year from August 19 to September 20 as the state has completed its investigations. Mavundla also reported that outstanding DNA results have been received.

The four accused: Thokozane Msibi (32), Brilliant Mkhize (26), Knowledge Mhlanga (22) and Themba Thubane (26) stand accused for the kidnap and murder of the two children. The defence of the accused confirmed that they have received the indictment and they will remain in custody until then.

Nothing was said about the extradition order of the fifth accused, one Mfanasibili Gamedze who is in custody in Swaziland.

Mpumalanga MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs and also regional chairperson of the ANC Mr Speedy Mashilo thanked the people for their support they have shown towards the Shabane family. He also indicated that the family will now find closure as the funeral of the children will be held on Saturday, October 20. He also thanked the police for their investigation and said transport will be available to them for the trial. Mashilo also spoke strongly against the television drama Uzalo.

Emalahleni executive mayor Cllr Lihah Malatjie who also attended thanked the people and the different organisations for their support and the Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) for the role they played.

Ms Anna Shabane thanked the people for their support from day one and said they still need their support next year during the trial.

“Please do not lose hope and now at least we can bury the children in dignity and your support means a lot to the family,” noted Ms Shabane.

Transversal unit manager in the office of the executive mayor Ms Trudy-Xhala Mavimbela, who has been coordinating during the appearance of the accused, also thanked all the stakeholders and community members for their support. She also thanked the justice department and the police for the role they played and the support they gave during campaigns, dialogues and awareness campaigns.


The four accused for the kidnapping and murder of the two Shabane children are: Thokozane Msibi (32), Brilliant Mkhize (26), Knowledge Mhlanga (22) and Themba Thubane (26). Their case has been transferred to Delmas next year from August 19 to September 20.

She was happy that the DNA results have been received and the family will go ahead and have a funeral for the children.

“Our municipality played a leading role and the provincial government was also in support throughout and hopefully they will give support until the case is finalised,” added Ms Xhala-Mavimbela.
