Community members of Thala in Thushanang say they live in their RDP houses without a sewerage system and they had enough of the problem and they do not know who to turn to.

They say they started staying in the area long before 1994 but the place was declared a location in 2007 and then RDP houses were built in 2010.
“These RDP houses don’t have a sewage system. Every counsellor we had, had promised us that we will get the sewage system running in our houses. Our yards are full of holes that we have dung pit toilets in the past years. This is very unhealthy to us and our children. The current counsellor also promised that Eskom will donate some funds for the sewage to be put in the area. The promise was made last year but up to date nothing has happened. We are now used to lies because it has been promises all along,” said Mr Dennis Mahlangu, one of the community members.

Members of the community said they have decided to take the matter up with the national government. They are wondering as to how people live for 11 years without proper sanitation.
A questionnaire was sent to the municipality concerning the matter and Mr Kingdom Mabuza, communication manager in response said that owing to budget constrains they were only able to built sewerage in one street only and that it was true that Eskom has previously committed but now they are told that they’re also experiencing cash flow challenges.
Houses in Thala, the houses do not have sewerage systems, they still rely on pit toilets since they occupied their houses in 2010.
Pit toilets which can be seen in corners of houses in Thala and the people are complaining that they have no where to go in their yards.
“Ward councillor in the area, Cllr Mphego, is working very hard to ensure that in the next budget the issue of sewerage is catered for. In the meantime we appeal to residents of Thala to be patient as we are doing everything possible to deliver those much needed services,” added Mr Mabuza.
