Man seriously burned after falling in sinkhole

The infamous underground fires at Jackaroo Park are still burning.

Mr Ben Coetzee who was flying a kite in the August winds walked into the grounds to collect the kite on August 26 when the ground collapsed beneath him where a sinkhole had formed. The earth underneath the sinkhole is burning.

Mr Willie van der Merwe from SACCW, who was on scene first said the man’s friend, Mr Mario Victor pulled him out of the sinkhole.

“I immediately started with medical assistance and gave over to Legacy Emergency Specialists when they arrived.”

Mr Gavin Cooper from Legacy said Coetzee sustained serious burn wounds to his legs and lower body.

Coetzee was taken to Witbank Hospital.
