A slice makes all the difference in the morning

The hands of a few people made the difference in the lives of many at Witbank Hospital.

Every day from Monday to Thursday you will notice a handful of volunteers from the Al-Imdaad Foundation walking the hallways of Witbank Hospital, adorning yellow reflector jackets with the words ‘Volunteer’.

These volunteers spend their mornings handing out roughly 400 peanut-butter sandwiches as part of the relief initiative of Slice4Life here in eMalahleni.

“Some of the community spend their early mornings getting to the hospital and by tea time they are hungry, or even starved, we are able to help them by giving them food, through Slice4Life,” said Moulana Mohamed Chodree.

This poverty alleviation project is able thanks to the combined efforts of the Witbank Muslim Jamaat, the Al-Imdaad Foundation and Witbank Hospital.

Al-Imdaad is best known as a relief organisation and when disasters are not taking place, they turn their attention to bringing about relief in poverty struck areas, they support over 40 hospitals and clinics country wide and over 200 000 sandwiches are made on a monthly basis, used for Slice4Life.

“We saw a need to fill the gap, feeding the less fortunate,” ended Moulana Chodree.
