39 nabbed for drunken driving these past holidays

Furthermore, on Friday a total of 19 citizens were arrested.

This past holiday, police were in full force leaving no stone unturned.

Their hard work and determination saw them nab 39 people for driving a vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor.

The arrests were part of operation festive season.

Most drunken driving arrests were made from Thursday, December 28 to Saturday December 30 2017.

“These arrests for the three days are a lot. It shows that people are not respecting the law,” said Witbank Police Communication Officer Sgt David Ratau.

After you get arrested for drunken driving your blood gets withdrawn in order to take it to the laboratory for tests; you are eligible for R1500 bail; when all this is done the person will have to appear in court after six months when the court has the results and will determine if the person would be found guilty or not.

Operation festive season yielded good results. This was conducted at the N4 highway Wednesday, December 12.

“It is advisable that after you have not been found guilty by the court to go see your investigating officer and they will assist you up until the end of the case. This has to be done in order to get a personal clearance,” continued Ratau.

Two arrests were made on Thursday at 20:35 where a man aged 38 driving a maroon Fiat Palio was locked behind bars and an hour later a 25-year-old man was also arrested.

Furthermore, on Friday a total of 19 citizens were arrested.

This happened between 17:00 and 20:30 with men aged 28 to 51, also two women aged between 27 and 33 were arrested between the times of 18:00 and 20:16.
