Eskom is flicking the switch again

The final nail is in the coffin and there are dark days ahead this Festive Season.

The final nail is in the coffin and there are dark days ahead this Festive Season.

Eskom has decided to implement bulk electricity disconnections to the Emalahleni Local Municipality.

On December 14 Eskom will flick the switch. Residents will have to cope without electricity for four and a half hours on weekdays and five hours a day over weekends.

From Monday to Friday there will be no electricity between 06:00 to 08:00 and 17:00 to 19:30. On weekends there will be no electricity between 08:30 to 11:00 and 15:00 to 17:30.

Eskom warned that should the debt situation not improve they can disconnect electricity entirely and indefinitely.

The electricity utility pointed out that it is important to ensure that the municipal debt which is currently sitting at R1.3-billion does not grow and that the only possible solution is to interrupt electricity which will reduce consumption.

Local attorney, Mr Johan Coetzee, who is acting on behalf of the Save eMalahleni group, indicated that they weighing up their options to interdict Eskom from initiating the interruptions pending the review of the electricity giant’s decision.
