There is no water in the municipal buckets, and there is no water filling the empty bucket either as residents still have not received municipal accounts.
More thirsty-for-payment departments are queuing up. The latest is the Department of Water and Sanitation who wants the Emalahleni Local Municipality to pay R144 654 000 for outstanding debts.
If the municipality fails to meet the demand and not pay their debt that has been outstanding for 60 days, the department will close the taps on December 8.
Eskom is also fed up and will issue a notice clarifying the municipal position with them.
On November 15 the electricity giant said, ”
Due to a high number of submissions received from various stakeholders, Eskom has decided not to communicate its final decision on November 9 as indicated previously. More time is needed to go through the submissions received before a decision can be made and communicated. The contemplated interruptions can only be averted once an acceptable agreement has been reached to settle the outstanding debt.
The final decision will be published before the end of November.”
