Local artists unite to fight against drugs

Organised by Lwazi Duma Entertainment and The Muff, the event was held at Hofmeyer Street on Friday, September 22.

Local artists came together to raise drug abuse awareness. Organised by Lwazi Duma Entertainment and The Muff, the event was held at Hofmeyer Street on Friday, September 22.

The artists wanted to show serious impact in terms of fighting against drugs with their music. This initiative had the support of South Africa National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) who were present.

“We are redirecting the youth’s focus from substance abuse to channelling their energy into music and eventually the entertainment industry overall,” explained Thokozani (TK) Ncongwane.

He urged artists to educate themselves so they cannot be taken for granted.

Later on, the day was sealed with a benefit concert at Stizzy Pools where more than 40 Emalaheleni artists performed.

The whole event accommodated people of all ages. The winner of the benefit concert was 15-year-old Khanyisile “Keshmare” Nkosi. She was announced the victorious one on Sunday receiving R2000 in cash sponsored by All Star Lounge, R5000 recording voucher and a clothing hamper worth R1200 from Gazol.

“Keshmere really shocked the judges as this was her first performance,” said Lwazi Duma.

Proceeds of the benefit concert will go into funding the educational seminar taking place at the Civic Theatre on October 13 where Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) will be in attendance. In this workshop artists will learn how to make a living out of music.
