Vaal River City Marathon is finally here

For the past three years the Vaal River City Marathon has been a great success story for the Sedibeng community.

SEDIBENG – Expect traffic on Sunday morning (September 15) when the much-anticipated Vaal River City Marathon takes place at the Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark. It is reported that more than 3000 athletes from all over the continent will fill the venue to compete against each other.

The athletes who will be competing in the 40km distance will also use this race to qualify for the Comrades Marathon for 2025. For the past three years the Vaal River City Marathon has been a great success story for the Sedibeng community.

This annual event is organised and hosted by Dr Molefi Oliphant in conjunction with Athletics Vaal Triangle, with Rand Water as the main sponsor. Oliphant, who is the Lifetime President of the South African Football Association (SAFA), is well known for his administration par excellence.

South Africa hosted a successful 2010 World Cup under his leadership as the SAFA president. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport ahead of the event, Oliphant said all roads will lead to Isak Steyl come Sunday.

Oliphant said all the administrations and other logistics is in place to make this event a success.

“We are anticipating a big number of runners and we are ready to welcome them. We want to thank all our stakeholders who work tirelessly in preparation of this event. We had sleepless nights to ensure come Sunday everything is in place,” said Oliphant.
