Doctor Khumalo urges South African to rally behind Bafana Bafana

Bafana Bafana will host Uganda in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifier taking place at Orlando Stadium on Friday evening.

SEDIBENG – Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Doctor Khumalo urges all the South Africans to rally behind the national team.

Kick-off time is 18:00. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Khumalo was confident that Bafana Bafana will qualify for AFCON if they maintained their current performance.

He told Sedibeng Ster Sport, that he has no doubt that Coach Hugo Broos and his technical team will make South Africa proud.

This interview with Sedibeng Ster Sport was organised by 10Bet South Africa, who is in partnership with Bafana Bafana as their official betting partner for a period of four years.

Khumalo told Sedibeng Ster Sport that Bafana Bafana will pass through Uganda come Friday evening. He spoke highly about Broos and his technical team for transforming Bafana Bafana into the team it is today.

When asked if the South African media owed Broos an apology, his immediate respond was “for what?”

Khumalo said football is a sport of opinion and people will always see football differently.

“In my opinion there is nothing wrong with criticising the coach, because football it is a game of opinion. Why should we apologise to the coach for seeing things differently. But I must say, the team has improved with the players from Mamelodi Sundowns being a core of the team.

“Yes, it is true that in the past Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates players used to dominate Bafana Bafana’s selections, but things have changed now.

“These days national coaches can select any player who play in PSL based on their current form. For example, even Stellenbosch gets selected in numbers in the national team,” explained Khumalo.

This former Kazier Chiefs legend was part of Bafana Bafana who made history when they won AFCON in 1996. Khumalo was and still is a real darling of South African football. He is still celebrated by soccer fans after all these years being retired as a top flight football player.
