Suspect nabbed after discovery of cloned police vehicle

WALKERVILLE. – Police pounced on a 44-year-old suspect in Walkerville following the discovery of a cloned police vehicle on a property in Walkerville. The incident happened on August 27.

The arrest follows an intelligence-driven operation carried out by the Johannesburg Crime Intelligence and the Soweto K9 unit.

Police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza says: “The operation led to the recovery of a cloned marked Volkswagen Golf with police registration number plates and police call signs, a white VW Polo fitted with blue lights and siren, a stolen R5 rifle and police reflector jackets as well as several SAPS number plates.”

Kweza states that the suspect may be linked to robberies in Gauteng.

“Police believe the vehicles were utilized during truck hijackings and courier vehicle robberies. The suspect will appear in court soon.”

Kweza states that more arrests are iminent as investigations continue.
