Sharpeville hosts DGL U/17 Top8 festival

The day’s programme started with the game between the home team NWU Vaal FC against TS Galaxy.

SHARPEVILLE – Sedibeng once again hosted the Gauteng Development League U17 Top 8 Festival Games.
These games took place at George Thabe Stadium on Sunday. However, the local soccer fans didn’t fill the venue as was anticipated taking into consideration that the games were played right in the heart of the community.

WORDS FROM COACH: Surprise Moriri “This is how Sundowns play, play from the back and I think we did exceptional well regardless of the pressure that the opponents put on us. Our circulation of the ball playing from the back, middle and final third was marvel to watch.”

Despite the poor attendance the games were exciting to watch. The day’s programme started with the game between the home team NWU Vaal FC against TS Galaxy.
This game ended in a goalless draw even though TS Galaxy dominated the better part of the game, but failed to convert their chance into a goal.

They created lots of scoring opportunities, but their decision-making has failed them. NWU Vaal FC, however, was relieved that the game ended up in a goalless draw.
In the second game of the day, Mamelodi Sundowns beat Tuks 2-0 in a Tshwane derby. It was a one-sided game with Sundowns dominating the field.
RESA hammered School of Excellence 4-0 in their game, which also formed part of the Festival Games. The home team made their intentions clear from the first whistle attacking the helpless School of Excellence. Current standings indicate RESA at the summit of the log, with Sundowns in second place.
In the last game of the day, Kaizer Chiefs beat Highlands Park 4-0. It was a great day of football for local fans even though the attendance left much to desire.
Meanwhile, Sedibeng Ster Sport has learned that there are problems at NWU Vaal as the team failed to honour their Gauteng Development League fixture against TS Galaxy at the same venue on Saturday, with all their divisions. However, Sedibeng Ster Sport will follow up on this matter.
