MEYERTON – The air was filled with the aroma of delicious food, the sound of laughter and the rhythm of great music when Lynca Meats hosted its annual potjiekos competition on August 10 at the Lynca Factory Shop at Valley Settlements.

Participants had a blast and it was a day during which community and togetherness were celebrated under the bright African sun. Besides the main attraction of the day – POTJIEKOS – there was also fun activities for kids, a live band to keep the party going and liquor on sale to toast to the good times as well as the Springboks’ victory over Australia.

Visitors were invited to come taste the best potjiekos in town for just R50 per meal.

More than 30 teams battled it out during this exciting cook-off, but in the end, there could only be one winner.

After preparing their potjies for most of the morning, judging happened later in the afternoon. The judges had a tough task of selecting a winner out of all the delicious, mouthwatering recipes that were prepared and served.

The Risky Business team (a team consisting of members of Lynca Meats’ Risk Management Department) won the competition with their exquisite traditional Free State beef potjie.
