Teen arrested for firing shots at a cemetery

The girl was arrested following a video, which went viral on social media where she was seen firing shots at a cemetery.

The Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit has arrested a 17-year-old girl for discharging a firearm at a municipal area over the weekend.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza said the girl was taken to Walter Sisulu Juvenile centre and police are still looking for the firearm.

“The girl was arrested following a video, which went viral on social media where she was seen firing shots at a cemetery. She was traced and was arrested at home. Police are looking for other people related to the same incident.”

Meanwhile, a total of 63 firearms and more than 1 400 rounds of ammunition have been recovered in Gauteng this week.

According to Kweza these firearms were recovered in the five districts during various procedures and stop and search operations.

“In recent incidents firearms were recovered. Members of AGU also arrested two suspects in Westbury and recovered several firearms. The two suspects were arrested on Friday and Saturday, and are both in police custody.”

In another incident in Rossetenville, police arrested five suspects and recovered two firearms as well as a stolen vehicle following an attempted hijacking in Rossetenville yesterday. One Suspect was shot and killed while another was wounded.

All the recovered firearms will be subjected to a ballistic test to determine whether they can be linked to other serious crimes committed.
