SAPS celebrate Father’s Day

The SAPS held a Father's Day event for fathers serving in the police force.

VEREENIGING. – They might be police officers, but they are fathers first.

The Sedibeng District SAPS held a Father’s Day event at Lions Creek on Friday 28 June to honour fathers serving in the police force.

The event included talks on how to take care of finances, as well as taking care of themselves (physically and spiritually).

Everyone present received a gift bag with Father’s Day gifts.

Speaking at the event, the district commissioner, Major General Khensani Lemba, said: “The women and children of South Africa should feel safe and should feel free, and that can only be realised when you as men take up your rightful place and perform the duty which God as called you to do.

“Let us reflect on the values that defines fatherhood and policing alike. These are values like integrity, compassion, selflessness, dependability” Lemba said.

Lemba said that officers have a mammoth of a task to perform to ensure that the Republic of South Africa is the best place that it can be.

“It can only be realised when you make that choice. It is your choice. As women we want to be led. Right now we are faced with situations where the men are cowering from leading us. They are making all sorts of excuses. You can only lead by taking responsibility, by being a visionary, by holding someone accountable. You are the head of the house. We need you,” Lemba said.
