VIDEO: First spray on the water lettuce

This will happen under the supervision of Rand Water and the community members involved.

Professional crop sprayers and drone operators started spraying the Water Lettuce on Tuesday morning, February 13.

In a facebook post Vaal River Rats South Africa said: “Glyphosate, the herbicide that will be sprayed on the water lettuce and hyacinth – takes at least seven days before one can start to see damage to the plants, and two weeks for full effect, so please don’t be too hasty in expecting results.”

The plan thereafter is to do mop-up spraying of areas that were missed, using drones and boat-mounted herbicide spray systems.”

This will happen under the supervision of Rand Water and the community members involved.

This is being done in accordance with the approved General Authorisation from the Department of Water and Sanitation South Africa and with technical information from Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment
