Resilient gogo turns 103

While visiting her home, Sedibeng Ster witnessed neighbors and friends come in with presents and delicacies to help the woman they look up to celebrate her special day.

BOPHELONG. – Gogo Martha Masi Lunga born in 1920 turned 103 years on Thursday 02 November. In celebration of her coming of age, family and friends gathered at her home in Vuyi Street, Bophelong where they thanked her for everything, she has done for not only her kids but the community at large.

The mother of two was left with a daughter and six grandkids after her son passed away. The day was evident that Lunga was not only a devoted mother to her children, but a pillar that brought her community together.

While visiting her home, Sedibeng Ster witnessed neighbors and friends come in with presents and delicacies to help the woman they look up to celebrate her special day.

Speaking about her mother, Fikile Lunga described her as somebody who loves and respects those around her at all times.

“My mother always said that respect comes first. Growing up my mother gave me and my brother so much love. She also encouraged me to get educated as n as this would allow me to be independent. She loves people and she always says exactly what she feels.”

Maki Moqheuwa, a neighbor spoke highly about Gogo.

“Gogo was a mother to all the kids in our neighborhood. We would always come to this house and receive a lot of warmth. She showed us love and taught us unity. She also opened up a social club where she managed to get older women from the neighborhood to help out at funerals and functions.

“Her life is a testament that when you lead a good life, have respect for yourself and others, and also show others love, you will gain God’s favor,” she concludes.
