Gauteng Women in Sport Awards

The awards were divided into different categories including Administrator of the Year, Coach of the Year, Team of the Year, School Sports Athlete of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Futballing Girls, in conjunction with the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation, hosted their 4th Gauteng Women in Sports Awards in Sedibeng at the Quest Conference Estate in Vanderbijlpark on Sunday.

These awards take place throughout Gauteng with the main aim of recognising and rewarding girls and women for their outstanding performance in their respective sporting fields. These include athletes, administrators, and coaches. The founder of Futballing Girls, Moonira Ramathula, is the driving force behind this initiative to acknowledge and honour women in sports in Gauteng. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport after the event, Ramathula said these awards aim to encourage women to participate in sports. She believes that women have a significant responsibility in sports.

“The goal of the Gauteng Women in Sports Awards is to recognise women for their contributions in sports.

“We aim to inspire the girls out there not to give up on their dreams. The Gauteng Women in Sports Awards is our way of saying to them, “We see you, and we acknowledge your contributions in sports,” said Ramathula.

The awards were divided into different categories including Administrator of the Year, Coach of the Year, Team of the Year, School Sports Athlete of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year.

The VUT Women’s Basketball Team received the Team of the Year Award, with Mathapelo Motaung winning the Administrator of the Year Award.

Lesego Molefe received the Coach of the Year Award, while Duduzile Malindi won the School Sports Athlete of the Year.

Manana Mosia was awarded Sportswoman of the Year, and Sinethemba Dlamini received the Volunteer of the Year Award.
